Old Tymers Night

May 01, 2012

At the annual Old Tymer's Night, Shuniah Lodge honoured Bros. Alastair MacKay and Herb Schindelhaurer

Bro. Alastair MacKay was born in Fort William graduating from F.W.C.J. He immediately joined the Air Force in W.W. II. After the war he worked for various jobs in Port Arthur, Montreal, and Atikokan. He moved to Thunder Bay in 1971 to work for the Federal Industrial Development Bank until his retirement in 1986. He has worked since as a consultant to Fort William First Nations.  Alastair was very active in his church acting as both Treasurer and Elder.  He is married to Barbara and they have two sons.   Alastair joined Royal Lodge when he was 23 years old and came to Shuniah Lodge when they amalgamated. He is a member of Scottish Rite  and Shrine.

Bro. Herbert Schindelhauer was born in Hamburg Germany and came to Canada in 1951 to work as a millwright for The Great Lakes Paper Company. He was only going to stay for a short time but got married and stayed on. He worked for various jobs including millwright, mechanic, and wood cutter before joining the Police Department in 1958. He stayed with the force until his retirement in 1993.  Herbert married his wife Jan in 1970 and together they like to travel, swim, woodwork and make desserts from his mothers old recipes.  Herbert joined Royal Lodge in 1963 and came to Shuniah when they amalgamated. He is a member of Scottish Rite and Shrine.
